Fundraiser Seeking Donations, Sponsors & Chefs
Tuesday, August 28, Lift Urban Portland is holding a new fundraiser we are calling a Garden Party. It celebrates our community gardens, which enhance our food programs, prevent disease in our food recipients, and inspire volunteerism. Our keynote speaker is Portland Commissioner Nick Fish. He is pursuing a goal of 1000 new community garden plots this year, both to serve the needy, and in support of the city/county Climate Action Plan.
The party will be outside at the World Forestry Center. Among other activities, guests will be encouraged to accept a garden start or seeds and plant a row of fruit or vegetables in their own gardens dedicated to our pantry. It should be a lovely time to both support our food programs and build community.
We are currently seeking sponsors, in-kind donations and chefs to demonstrate cooking with local, seasonal ingredients.
And we of course welcome your attendance. For more information, please call Juliet Hyams at 503-473-1557 or write to Juliet@LiftUrbanPortland.org.

Food Drive May 2012
The Lift Urban Portland Food Drive: Feed Our Community (View the flyer)
May 1st-31st
Throughout the month of May, the Lift Urban Portland Food Drive helps hungry families in the Pearl District, Northwest Portland, downtown and in Old Town. Generous congregations, businesses and condominiums make room for our food barrels and cash boxes. They are too numerous to mention here, but check our website for an exhaustive list: LiftUrbanPortland.org. Other businesses show their support by hosting raffles and percentage-donated days to our benefit.
- Dine at Besaw’s Cafe‘ any night in May. As their featured monthly charity, we receive a percentage of those proceeds.
- Blush Beauty Bar is holding a raffle of products worth $250. They will match the amount raised. $3 per ticket.
- Food Front Cooperative Grocery is creating a point-of-purchase donation display to support our food box program. Look for our table outside their door May 12.
- Shop at charming Nobal Home in the Pearl District May 1-15, and mention our name. They’ll donate a percentage of your purchases to us.
- First Thursday, May 3, enter a raffle at Stella’s on 21st for a Tokyobay Watch, a CD by Jason Okamoto and a “Harlow” necklace.
We collect non-perishable foods and cash to stock our emergency food pantry, and backpacks for homeless students at Chapman Elementary School. We stretch your dollars to purchase food at bulk rates from the Oregon Food Bank.
